caseyhayes.net Previous Portfolio Website

This portfolio website served me for several years to get my foot in the door of children's toy, game and clothing design and illustration. It was originally animated in flash with each animal coming to life when rolled over and saying a funny sound or voice when clicked on.

Here is a baboon I did for the site at the same time which didn't quite make the cut. It was a little too bizarre/scary to fit the rest of the site. I think it has great geometric repetition in the face.

Kidorable Fairy Catalog Layout

I started working as graphic designer for a children's clothing and accessory company called Kidorable in mid 2006. It is a fun company and their products generally match my own feelings about never growing old inside. Please visit the website (which I later designed) at www.kidorable.com

The first few catalogs I did for them were mostly production work updating old files. Here are a few images from a catalog where I started fusing my own style with their existing look and products:

I supervised the photo shoot for these products, retouched the photos, and designed this two page catalog layout. I wanted the fairy dust to lead the viewer from the girl's face through the range of new products. The samples we used on this shoot were close to final so there was not as much retouching needed as on future shoots.

Here is another element from this catalog, a small illustration of a castle I did on the cover:

I took each style, found a vibrant contrasting background color, and added a third contrast color for text elements when possible (white, green, and magenta in this example). In some cases I created small illustrations from scratch, like this barn/fences and in other cases I fine tuned existing illustrations. In any case the layout serves to highlight the products not distract from them. This cow style is now discontinued but I still like the layout and how clearly the model is "mooing" along:
